CALIFORNIA FLATS SOLAR (280 MW)
MONTEREY AND SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA

Morton and Pitalo, Inc. civil engineering services for First Solar’s photovoltaic solar facilities (California Flats Solar Facility, a.k.a Apple’s Solar Facility) consisting of multiple parcels totaling approximately 2,900 acres, and located northeast of Paso Robles, California in the unincorporated areas of both Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties. Apple will receive 130 megawatts of electricity from the solar project under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The remaining 150 MW generated from the project will be sold to Pacific Gas & Electric under a separate long-term agreement.

Morton & Pitalo, Inc. prepared 5 separate sets of plans for the project including: Approximately 13.3 miles of access road plan and profile designs from SR-41 to the northern property boundary. Separate sets of plans for the access roads were prepared and processed for approval by both Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties. The Access Road design included drainage improvements while considering environmental constraints and included both horizontal and vertical design parameters for a transporter truck. Designs for the Phase A and Phase B improvements consisted of grading, drainage, fencing and erosion control improvements. Phase A and B grading design was based upon the “fix tilt” and “tracker” array design parameters and took into account the Environmentally Sensitive Areas identified in the California Flats Solar Project EIR. A separate set of plans was prepared for the 2,500 square foot Operations and Maintenance (O&M) building. The O&M plans included grading, paving, and drainage improvements. The O&M building plan also included domestic water and fire protection water storage tanks and the design of a sanitary sewer septic system.
